Background “My background is as a trained musician, primary teacher, technical author, web manager and designer and programmer of educational software. I have collaborated for many years with friends at the highly respected Swedish educational software companies LäraMera, Leripa and Kognitiva Kompaniet, resulting in English versions of their innovative software being sold all over the world. Before leaving a management position in 2002 to raise our family, I enjoyed a busy and fulfilling career at Inclusive Technology, undoubtedly a leading supplier of switch accessible software and assistive technology. I particularly enjoyed my time there as a designer and programmer. I am delighted that some of my creations were in demand for more than ten years, and some on which I collaborated are still going strong, winning industry awards. I continue to design and programme new games and activities for Shiny Learning’s flourishing Subscription area, an online service which is being used in schools and homes around the world. In addition to running Shiny Learning, I am the Chief Officer of a not-for-profit charity that harnesses the skills of vulnerable and socially-isolated participants to refurbish computers. We redistribute refurbished computers to the digitally excluded and run a volunteer network of Digital Champions who support individuals and groups in our community to get online.” Helen Melhuish
